Our Director, Tara Welsh, recently caught up with Knight Frank’s Partner for New Homes, Chris Jones. The Knight Frank Interiors team has worked closely with Chris on an array of luxury show homes, including our bespoke interior design project at Chelsea Waterfront, in association with Accouter. Chris discusses the benefits of dressing a new build property and how different developments are unique to themselves.
Working in the New Homes industry for several years, you would have seen many luxury show homes in your time. What really stands out for you when you walk into a show apartment?
Well thought out spaces. There is a tendency for some designers to go over the top when dressing apartments and to try and appeal to a particular buyer’s profile. What stands out is a space that has been dressed to maximise the appeal of the subject room and to enhance its unique selling points, such as a great view or an interesting internal feature.
In association with Accouter, our interior designers created a bespoke scheme, Chelsea Waterfront II, in reflection to the spectacular view of the River Thames and London Skyline. The designers injected ripples of waters, elegant curves and glass, complimented by rich dark colour with distressed surface and hints of gold.
What is the main benefit of dressing a New Homes property for the sales market?
At its most basic, it helps buyers understand the space and helps them visualise their own furniture fitting into the space. At the other end of the scale, it shows a lifestyle and buyers very often buy into the vision.
What excites you the most about the launch of a new development?
Great Locations and new product to bring to the market. We spend several years on each project, and a lot of that time is spent in consulting, planning and preparing for a launch. The launch itself is a very tense part of the process as it is the first time you are showing your ideas to the market in the hope that they will like it. But that in itself is a big part of why it is exciting.
Each development is unique in its own way and tells a different story. What development for you stands out and why?
Developments that make themselves relevant to the community that they are built-in, this could be in the place making or the retail offering or even the type of product available. The most successful developments are those that reach out beyond their target markets and bring in elements of the surrounding community they are vying to be part of. Developments that have completed such as NOVA in Victoria by Landsec, Good Luck Hope and the Brentford Project by Ballymore and many more, are all good examples of the developer using the surrounding community to enhance their developments rather than shutting them out.
Our talented team has also worked along-side Chris completing a number of apartments at Fenman House, showcasing our Design-Led Turnkey Furniture Packages. Take a look at our Brochure here.
What do you love most about Chelsea Waterfront?
The breath-taking view from all angles of the bespoke property. The position of the luxury show home is unrivalled in my opinion, and it is even more picturesque at night, with the Albert Bridge all lit up in the foreground.
